Celebrating 90 Years of Social Security
On August 14, 1935, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed The Social Security Act into law.
Social Security was the centerpiece of FDR’s New Deal that ushered in an era of strengthening the social safety net. A reckoning took place following the Great Depression, and a promise of a fairer, more just society was borne of that era – a promise that the world’s richest nation would take care of its most vulnerable.
