Cynthia Sellers 1968 – 2025
Cynthia Sellers moved to Washington about 10 years ago and became engaged with the Green Party of Washington shortly there after, showing up for rallies, gatherings and protests throughout the State. She was a very creative, loving soul who enjoyed gardening and crafting.
She created the Very Large Sunflower that we have been carrying at marches and demonstrations throughout the State for the last 5 years. Her lively enthusiasm will be sorely missed.

Rachel Treichler 1951 – 2025
Rachel Treichler, aged 73, passed away at home surrounded by family on May 15, 2025, after decades of managing life with breast cancer. Rachel was born in Iowa in 1951 to William and Martha Treichler, and grew up on her family’s organic farm in Troy Mills, Iowa. She attended high school at The Colorado Rocky Mountain School in Carbondale, Colorado, and graduated from The Mountain School in Vershire, Vermont.

Olivia Cadaval 1943 – 2025
Sad news. Anyone in the Green Party who lives in or around DC will remember the Green candidate fundraisers (at least two for Jill Stein), annual Tres Reyes parties, and other events hosted by Olivia Cadaval and her husband David Bosserman at La Orilla, their house in DC's Mount Pleasant neighborhood.
This week, we lost a longtime colleague at the Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage and a giant in the folklore field: curator emerita Olivia Cadaval. She died at age eighty-two.

Bruce Hinkforth 1950 – 2025
Bruce John Hinkforth, age 75, passed away peacefully after a month long battle with the rare brain disease PRES.
Bruce was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater with degrees in Geology and Biology. These served as his own design of a degree in Environmental Science, which did not exist as a degree in 1980. He is survived by his wife Karen and son Brett, his stepmother Chris, as well as sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and his beloved corgi dogs.

Jesse Johnson 1959 – 2025
Jesse Johnson, West Virginia environmental activist and politician, died Thursday, April 10, 2025.
He is remembered as a fiery speaker opposed to mountaintop removal and Marcellus Shale gas extraction. As a member of the West Virginia Mountain Party, Johnson ran for governor in 2004, 2008, and 2012 ensuring ballot access for the subsequent four years. He also ran for US Senate in 2010 and House of Delegates in 2014.

Cody was not just a leader but a beacon of hope, dedication, and unwavering commitment to justice. He served as Co-Chair of the AZGP from 2021 to 2024, leaving an indelible mark on our party and our community. In 2022, he ran for Chandler City Council, and again in 2024 for the Arizona State House of Representatives in LD-13, driven by a relentless passion to create a more inclusive, equitable, and compassionate world.
